York based Athena, was first known for its wide reproduction of fine works of art. Although probably best known for its iconic posters such as L’Enfant and the Tennis Girl poster from 1976. The brand was making a comeback as Athena began to open stores back on the high street. We were asked to create a fresh, contemporary look for the iconic, high street brand, re-positioning them in an online market place with a new identity.

WIthout losing sight of its past, we made subtle changes to the stencil typeface used way back in the 1990's, helping retain the appeal to the nostalgic 30-40 somethings. Fully aware that we had to create new audiences, as well retain those who still remember Athena, the introduction of a new 'A' icon is perfect for use on social media. New products from Athena include Album Art. Work involved a striking identity, product development, packaging and promotional collateral.
After a succesful launch of the Athena Album Art brand, Athena is now back on the high street.... which is nice!
